Scarlet Sky Shots

We were taking a post-dinner stroll at Marina Barrage last Saturday when we saw a portion of the sky light up. The sky literally brightened with a reddish hue and I guess we must have been pretty transfixed by it because we decided to go on mission to find out what was causing the sky to light up every few minutes or so. We followed the reddish patch in the sky and finally stopped at Labrador Park, where we saw this: We've never seen a flame this big and bright! It was really quite a pretty sight (:

So cool. Reminds me of the opening scene in "Blade Runner".

Looks like from Jurong Island... Ain't so pretty if you are very close, noisy and scary is more like it... I work there, it happen quite often further in the Island, especially weekends...

It's even viewable as far as Queensway. The flames are from the Shell refinery at Pulau Bukom and there's obvious concern about the gas flaring's effect on air and environment. But I doubt anyone listens to environmental concerns nowadays, especially where it counts...!
